The Flame Thrower [PAC/RAT] was first released boxed in U.S. toy stores in 1983. It was also sold in 1984 and was discontinued in 1985.
The three PAC/RATs were sold as a set from Hasbro Direct via mail-away offers from 1985 until 1992.

The PAC/RATs have many small pieces that can break or become lost, and the remote control is also very easily lost.
Featured In
The Flame Thrower [PAC/RAT] was featured in several of the various media of GI Joe through the years, including Trading Cards, Comic Books, Cartoons and Commercials.
Variations
Some of the mail-in versions of the Flame Thrower [PAC/RAT] are molded in a darker shade of green.

International Releases
In 1986, Plastirama sold the Flame Thrower [PAC/RAT] in Argentina as the Robot Lanza-Llamas.
Also in 1986, Estrela Toys released the Flame Thrower [PAC/RAT] in Brazil as the Robô-Lança-Chamas.
