Review and photos by Patrick Robinson
The next vehicle in the Wave 1 vehicle release is a minor re-tooling of the original HISS tank, and when I say "minor", that's exactly what it is.
We've seen this HISS quite a few different times over the past 25 years, and other than color, there isn't a whole lot to differentiate one from the next. (I'm not referring to the Valor vs Venom models, naturally) But if you've missed any of the previous releases, this is the same faithful mold.
The treads and turret are a silvery gray color, and the cannon clip is now screwed on, but the two very slim tabs that lock into place to elevate the cannons are still there, and those are the pieces that broke most often on all previous releases. Time will tell if these hold up any better. For those who haven't owned a HISS, the treads are immobile, and the rolling action is facilitated by two small sets of wheels underneath. The canopy swings up to comfortably accommodate the HISS Commander, but you'll have to bend the knees a little to get the figure to fit without banging his head on the canopy.
The HISS Commander figure head strongly resembles that of the original HISS Driver, and the rest of the figure has been redesigned with full 25th Anniversary articulation, which makes fitting him into the cockpit a whole lot easier. A pistol fits neatly into his hip holster, and that throws off his balance a little when seated in the canopy, but it shouldn't affect playability or display too much. I like the look of this figure, I just have to wonder if the bowleggedness is permanent. Again, time will tell.
This is a good vehicle if you're an army builder or if you're just collecting singles of each vehicle, and with the exception of the aforementioned cannon tabs, is a sturdy overall package. As with the other vehicles, this package includes stickers, file cards for both driver and vehicle, and a blueprints sheet.
