Full Details

At the airport at Vladivostok, Russia, Chameleon complains that her passport photo doesn’t look like her, but Flint tells her they can’t use actual photos of themselves because of their deep cover nature. Lady Jaye expresses regrets at bringing Chameleon along, but Flint insists she knows the layout of the Cobra base, and they need to operate as a team.

Meanwhile, at the Cobra base, Oktober Guard ninja Gorky is torturing captured Joe operative Ronin. Gorky tells her he knows the techniques she uses to resist torture, and they won’t help her with his

methods. Ronin says it doesn’t matter since he’ll kill her anyway, but Gorky says he won’t kill her if she resists, he’ll let her suffering continue indefinitely. Ronin asks who he is, and Gorky tells her his origins.

In flashback, Gorky is in the Army as a trained assassin, and is very good at his job, willing to go after targets others would refuse. However, his superiors hear of other soldiers, specifically ninja, who are much more deadly. Gorky is sent to learn what he can about the ninja. He does so by asking questions of certain people in certain places, where the clan might overhear. He attracts their attention, and trains with them for many years. Once he has learned all he can from them, he burns down the ninja’s facility, and hunts and kills those who weren’t there at the time.

In the present, Gorky continues to brag about having killed more ninja than any man alive. Assuming this strikes home with the less experienced Ronin, he asks her what she’s willing to tell him.

Flint, Lady Jaye, and Chameleon trek through the forest and the rain near Khabarovsk Krai, having been driven to a drop-off point by a local driver whom Flint says they can trust not to give them away. Chameleon leads them to a drainage cover that will lead to the Cobra base the Oktober Guard is using. Lady Jaye is worried about traps, but Chameleon says the tunnels are so old and massive, not even Cobra got around to mapping them all, and the Oktober Guard haven’t had time to do so. Flint asks where they would be keeping prisoners, and Chameleon replies there are several options, and the Guard may have repurposed the place in the meantime. Flint decides to search from room to room, relying partially on a device Clockspring gave them to pinpoint Ronin’s location, although there is interference.

Colonel Shtern and the Oktober Guard discuss Intel they acquired from Major Bludd surrounding a Cobra site called Section Ten. They intend to burn it to the ground and use the nearby nickel mine for shelter, and to hide the Czar Cannon, the massive weapons system Ronin had discovered before her capture. As Shtern states they can’t remain at their present position much longer without attracting attention, Flint enters and opens fire on them. Several rooms distant, Gorky hears the gunshots, and leaves Ronin to back-up his team. He overlooks Lady Jaye in his haste, and she hands Chameleon a gun as she goes to free Ronin. As she attempts to release the girl, Oktober Guard agent Daina enters.

As Flint battles the highly trained soldier Shturmovik, Lady Jaye faces off against Daina, but is forced to stop as Gorky holds a knife to Chameleon’s throat.

Back in the USA, Clockspring receives a signal that Lady Jaye has been captured. He discusses the limited options with Firewall. They can’t send back-up to a disavowed mission; Firewall suggests using diplomacy to negotiate with Russia, but Clockspring isn’t sure Shtern is even affiliated with the government. Unsure what else to do, Clockspring goes to Tomax for help.
