Full Details

Max, recently having been sent away by Chuckles, is mumbling and grumbling to himself as he walks through the jungle about what he has done, which is handle Chuckles' escape plan from the prison (see Cobra II #2), covering his hiking tracks, smuggling schematics and clandestine communications all from the most secret organization in the world. When out of nowhere Chameleon appears with her blade placed to his throat. She wants to hear what he has to say.

Later, Erika Le Tene is suffering through a series dinners, meetings & briefings wondering if someone will ask her to step outside to her death. She knows that Cobra rules by fear, all of its employees feel it, but she is starting to come unglued with her fear. In one of the briefings, Max, who looks terrified and nervous to her, is stumbling through the briefing. She snaps at him about his briefing style and then recants reassuring him and asking him to continue. Erika then brings up a discussion they had a few days ago about her financial assets should she no longer require them. She asks if they can be given to charity. Then she recants that and encourages him to continue his briefing.

A few hours later Erika sees Max and Crystal Ball talking, she begins to worry that Max is informing him about her random actions. Xamot comes up behind her, totally startling her and informs her that they aren't talking about her. He tells her that Max is Crystal Ball's son. This makes her even more nervous and Xamot points out that her nervousness is really showing.

Out in the jungle in Chuckles' little camp, he is working out, regaining his strength from his prison time. Chameleon walks up on him as he is in mid-push up. He asks her if she killed the boy, which she didn't. Then she asks if he was planning on recruiting that weak kid. Chuckles answer is no, but he got a lot of information from him and he isn't part of any future plans.

Chameleon again tries to reason with Chuckles that her mission is to bring him back to GI Joe and Chuckles continues his argument that he is so close to making a major breakthrough against Cobra. He shows her the location for a Cobra meeting that will have many of its high command there. And he is going to be a one man force against the place. She doesn't like it but again she agrees with him and is going to call the Joes in for support as well as go in on her own to get Max out before it gets ugly.

Inside the location of the meeting, Erika is about to get dressed in a very expensive evening gown. An aid requests that she go meet with Tomax. Tomax tells her that she will not be attending the meeting tonight, Erika protests because it is supposed to be her promotion time. He tells her that as brothers they have come to a decision. They know that Chuckles is hiding out in the jungle planning an attack and they want her to lead a Viper team that is being sent out to kill him. They are giving her "her second chance" to deal with him, Tomax reminds her how very few people even get a 2nd chance. (See The 1st Cobra series for more detail about her relationship (and the first chance) with Chuckles)

She arrives at the motor pool where the Viper team is preparing, the lead Viper suggests she wear some body armor but before she can answer Xamot interrupts and requires her attention. Xamot leans over and whispers in her ear, she immediately turns around and orders the Viper team to proceed without her. As the Viper protests, but she uses her authority and the Viper turns to walk out with the rest of the team.

Erika running bare foot through the cellar sewer area as she thinks about what insane thing Xamot just said to her. She knows that with the meeting happening all eyes will be guarding them and the sewers should be unguarded, especially since Croc Master is supposed to be in the meeting. But he appears out of the sewer water with a harpoon gun telling her to go back. She refuses and he says he likes her and that she must go back. Again she refuses saying "I can't. I don't have any other choice." Croc Master shoots her in the chest with the harpoon. As she is falling she shoots Croc Master in the head. The harpoon failed to penetrate the body armor she was already wearing, which she has been wearing every day for days. The train crocodiles start coming after her. She begins shooting them. But runs out of bullets as the last one alive gets close and strikes out for its attack.

Chameleon appears stabbing the crocodile with her sword saying Erika Le Tene's life. She says "Five Seconds. Tell me why I shouldn't do the same to you."
