Full Details

After Cobra took over the PIT Lt. Falcon, Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Psyche-Out, Mainframe, and Trip have been slowly battling their forces.

Lt. Falcon, Scarlett and Snake Eyes check the Joe vehicles for explosives that may have been left behind by Cobra. After an all clear howl from Timber III, Lt. Falcon fires a flare to put light on the situation. All the HISS tanks and other Cobra vehicles that were

in the PIT motor pool are now gone. The Joes plan to cautiously move back into the PIT and slowly get things operational again, avoiding any traps left behind by Cobra.

Just outside the PIT a cavalcade of Cobra vehicles stirs up dust as they hastily retreat from the PIT. DR. Mindbender tends to the wounded offering novocaine as an anesthetic.

Overhead; the cargo plane owned by Pehr and Lovett flies by. A Trouble Bubble flies up alongside the plane and the facial recognition software used by the Cobra identifies the pilots as no threat. The Trouble Bubble flies away.

After the Trouble Bubble is gone, Wild Bill enters the cockpit, the recon mission is a success. The plane returns to their privately owned airstrip. They land and taxi while Duke addresses the Joes that have just returned from Sierra Gordo.

The ground underneath the returning Joes opens up and reveals an elevator like the ones on an aircraft carrier. Standing in the doorway are two familiar faces, Joe Colton and Jane. Joe states that he was in charge of the original base the PIT was built on. Pehr and Lovett bought the airstrip but had no idea what was underneath. Joe has vehicles waiting inside the tunnel, The tunnel connects the airstrip and the original base. They will take this secret route back to the PIT.

In the PIT Lt. Falcon is bringing the PIT’s systems back online. An alarm goes off and Mainframe detects an override of all systems. They go out to investigate and meet Joe and the GIJOE team at the entrance to the tunnel. They recognize the Mean Dog and the convoy inside.

Duke turns the operation over to Colton. Colton and Jane issue orders to follow Cobra and to begin sanitizing the PIT.

Colton called in all the armor drivers before Duke returned. Cover Girl, Armadillo, Steeler, Rumbler, Long Range, and Grand Slam report for duty.

Stalker orders Tunnel Rat, Light Foot, and Tripwire to check all the Joe vehicles for explosives.

Air cover will be delayed. Mainframe has found a virus and series of trojan horses in the systems and all aircraft are grounded.

Spirit reports from the top of a tower that the Cobra vehicles are heading to the highway.

DR. Mindbender tells Cobra Commander that the retreat must go at a slow pace because of the wounded. A Trouble Bubble pilot at the rear reports that the PIT entrance is opening. The Awe Striker, Wolverine, Mean Dog, Mobat, MBT Mauler, and the Rolling Thunder roar out of the PIT.

Cobra Commander orders the main column to proceed to the highway. He will lead a HISS III, two HISS V5s, two Maggots and a Ferret back towards the PIT. He disappears. A wounded Cobra turns to the WORMS and says he is so touched by the Commander’s actions he is almost crying. Cobra Commander reappears in his battle armor.

In the PIT, Lt. Falcon, Colton, and Mainframe analyze possible tactics. Colton says he cannot call in the death ray from New York, those actions can only be ordered by the President now. Falcon informs Duke that his hands are tied, basically, no air support, no death ray.

Cobra Commander leads his small and reluctant force to face the oncoming Joes head on. Duke tells his troops to get ready.

Thinking he has an ace in the hole Cobra Commander detonates the explosives they planted on the Joe vehicles; or so he thinks. DR. Mindbender reports that random vehicles in the column are exploding. Duke says now they know what happened to all the explosives Snake Eyes found on the Joe vehicles in the PIT.

The Joe’s armor force fires on the approaching Cobra vehicles. All are destroyed except for Cobra Commander’s HISS III. Cobra Commander leads the Joes away from the main column.

The HISS III canopy is damaged by the Awe Striker. Duke leaps from the cliff the Awe Striker is driving along above the HISS III. He lands on top of the HISS III. Unable to reach Duke, the Awe Striker looks for a way around as Duke fights Cobra Commander hand to hand in the HISS turret.

Meanwhile the Cobra column has reached the highway. Waiting for them is a convoy of Broca Bros Circus trucks. The Cobra Trouble Bubbles create a smokescreen obscuring the trucks from the Joes. Unable to see, the Joes must hold their fire.

The HISS III driver stands in the shattered cockpit and aims at Duke, with no one driving, the tank hits a boulder. The driver’s aim is interrupted and he misses Duke hitting Cobra Commander in the chest. Duke shoots the driver. The HISS crashes and explodes.

Cobra Commander and Duke are thrown clear in the explosion. Seeing him lying motionless, Clutch jumps from the Awe Striker with a med kit, and runs towards the Commander. Duke spears Clutch and forces him back as the Commander’s suit explodes. It turns out it was not Cobra Commander but a Blue Ninja BAT, a decoy.

In the back of one of the circus trucks DR. Mindbender lets the real Cobra Commander know it is safe to come out. The cyborg replacement has self destructed.

In light of this defeat DR. Mindbender suggests they trim back operations and lay low. Cobra Commander has other ideas, undaunted, he says he is already formulating a new plan.

In the PIT Duke, Stalker, Colton, Jane and a newly arrived Hawk, fresh from the Pentagon, address the Joes.

The Joes must protect their newfound base as a matter of national security. No strangers to secrets or need to know policies the Joes readily accept. Jane shows the complete diagram of the entire base with the previously unknown areas highlighted in red.

Jane then gives a tour of the facilities with the members of GIJOE with the proper clearance. Hawk, Stalker, Duke, and Scarlett follow her past the newly opened tunnel to a giant door. Jane enters a code and the door opens. The Joes stand with shocked looks on their faces as they are shown what is inside.

To be continued in issue 201.
