In the Storm Shadow story, a different origin is told. Without any connection to Snake-Eyes but with a similar storyline of leaving his training as ninja in disgrace. Storm Shadow's name is Azaki Suromo.

Scrap Iron's back story is also told and that is completely different.

Storm Shadow
The Scrap Yard
Story #1
Story Title: Storm Shadow

Summary: Azaki (Storm Shadow) and his brother Shima are invited to train to become ninja of the first order. The one complication is that only one member of a family can be elected ninja. So a rivalry builds between the brothers. Shima is better at the bow and arrow then Storm Shadow. Storm Shadow is driven to become a ninja. He realizes that he is going to lose to his brother. Later, his brother is found dead with an arrow in his back. Azaki accuses Harumo, who was arguing with his brother, of killing him. Harumo denies it completely. The Grand Master decides that the dispute will be solved by combat with samurai swords. Harumo, the stronger more experienced fighter, quickly disarms Storm Shadow, who then says "I will withdraw what I said about you murdering Shima." But Harumo still attacks.

Story Title: The Scrap Yard

Summary: Scrap Iron is helping a group of rebels fighters fight against the established government soldiers somewhere in Sub-Saharan Africa. A tank column is approaching and using his multiple missile systems destroys them all, then the rebel soldiers attack the government soldiers. Scrap Iron stays out of the hand to hand fighting and just as the rebels are losing he escapes into the desert. Action Force is called in to help track him down. Several APC's are unloaded and they spread out to look for him. One is lead by Sgt. Stonewall and another by Roadblock. Scrap Iron's data is forwarded to them in the field. He is of Peruvian Nationality, lived in the Andes working as driver of llamas, joined the military became a missile gunnery specialist, trained in Cuba, then deserted and joined Cobra. Sgt. Stonewall catches up to Scrap Iron who is walking with a camel. Stonewall reports in that he has found him unarmed, but Roadblock warns him to watch out for hidden traps. Scrap Iron had set up a missile launcher that destroys the APC killing Sgt. Stonewall. By the time Roadblock gets to the destroyed APC, Scrap Iron has disappeared into the grasslands with his camel and missile launcher.
