Filecard Information

File Name: TOP SECRET
Grade: E-4 (or equivalent)
Birthplace: Various Countries
Primary Specialty: Undercover espionage
Secondary Specialty: Demolition

The Crimson Guard are the elite shock troops of the COBRA Legions. All CG's must be college graduates as well as being in top physical condition. Final stages of training take place in the deepest recesses of COBRA Headquarters and is purported to involve an initiation too hideous for description.

Crimson Guardsmen are too precious to be wasted on the conventional battle field. They are dispersed about the country in deep cover, assuming normal appearances and life-styles. Watch out. That friendly new neighbor of yours might just have a red uniform hanging in his closet....

Variations

Crimson Guard was available in two different shades of red. The one pictured below on the right was slightly lighter in color.

Crimson Guard was with a short neck or long neck.

There are three types of backpacks that came with the Crimson Guards. The backpack below on the left is hollow throughout the entire backpack, light in color, and is the more difficult one to find. The backpack in the center is hollow only in the middle and light in color. The backpack on the right is hollow only in the middle and darker in color than the other two.

There are also at least five versions of Crimson Guard filecards:

The first version is tan colored and lists Secondary Military Specialty: Demolition. The second sentence of middle paragraph also says All CG's must be college graduates as well as being in top physical condition.

The second version is tan colored and uses the same text but with a red back to it. This version came with bagged versions of the Crimson Guard.

The third version is tan colored but does not have a black border around the picture of the Crimson Guard. It lists Secondary Military Specialty: Accounting. The second sentence of middle paragraph says: All "Siegies" must hold a degree in either law or accounting as well as being in top physical condition. The type used on this filecard is slightly larger.

The fourth version is tan colored and is the same as the second version, except it does have the black border around the picture of the Crimson Guard.

The fifth version is gray colored and does not have the top paragraph information (File Name, Specialties, etc.). The type used on this filecard is much larger than the previous versions. This filecard would have been released in 1986.

Body Construction

The Crimson Guard's body is completely original - all new body parts.

The Crimson Guardsman's entire body and mold were re-used for the 1989 Python Crimson Guard. The torso, legs, and waist were reused to make Agent Faces (v2) (2003), Crimson Guard (v3) (2004), Crimson Guard (v4) (2004), and Crimson Guard (v5) (2004).

Starting with this series (Series Four, 1985), the head joint on G.I.Joe figures was changed into a head "ball." This ball allowed the head to look up and down, in addition to left and right.
