Variations
At some point, carded Payload figures had a change made to the back of the card. One cardback has a picture of a painted Payload prototype among the six Star Brigade figures - the other cardback has the corrected Payload figure among the six Star Brigade figures.
Body Construction
Payload was created using the same mold as Eco-Warriors Barbecue (1992). The mold was also used in 1994 to create Payload (v4) and Payload (v5).
Early publicity photos of Payload v3 (and the filecard art) depict Payload being made of the same mold as Payload (v1) and Payload (v2). However, Hasbro apparently lost the mold and used the Barbecue mold instead.
International Releases
In Canada, Payload was released in dual-language packaging.
In Europe, this version of Payload was released boxed as the Cobra pilot of the Cobra Invader.
