Series: Five (1986)
Dial-Tone (v2) was released as part of the fifth series (1986) in the Toys R Us exclusive Special Mission Brazil boxed set. The boxed set included Claymore, Leatherneck v2, Mainframe v2, Wet Suit v2, and a cassette tape.
The tape tells the adventures of Claymore, Dialtone, Mainframe, WetSuit, and Leatherneck in their mission to Brazil, and is dated 1986. Its quality is mediocre - the voices, dialogue, sound effects, and story are laughably poor. The second side of the tape is blank so "you can record your own adventures."
Dial-Tone came with a white submachine gun and a white backpack. With some effort, the comm piece on the backpack can be removed.
Also pictured is the bag of accessories that came with the Special Mission: Brazil set. It includes accessories for all five figures. Originally, these weapons would be extremely difficult to find. However, in later years, a toy dealer purchased Hasbro's left-over stock and made them available to toy collectors.
Birthplace: Eugene, Oregon
Primary Specialty: Radio Telecommunications
Secondary Specialty: Infantry
No variations of Dial-Tone (v2) are known to exist.
The entire body of Dial-Tone (v2) was originally used to create the original Dial-Tone. The mold was also used in 1990 to create the Sonic Fighters Dial-Tone (v3), in 2000 to create Dial Tone (v5), in 2002 to create Dial Tone (v6), and in 2003 to create Dial Tone (v7 - Tiger Force).
Versions of Dial-Tone
Note that there is a male Dial Tone character with the filename of "Jack S. Morelli" and a female Dialtone character with the filename of "Jill S. Morelli." The G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra video game establishes them as siblings.
