COBRA ANDROID TROOPER
Series: Five (1986)
B.A.T.S., also known as B.A.T., was first released as part of the fifth series (1986). He was also available in 1987 and was discontinued in 1988.
B.A.T.S. came with a black backpack, a silver hand, a silver gripper arm attachment, a silver laser attachment, and a silver torch attachment.
B.A.T.S. are the perfect Cobra Troopers. They never question orders, complain about the chow, shirk duty, or surrender. They require no leave-time, sick-pay, or benefits of any kind, and they are cheap and easy to replace. On the other hand, B.A.T.S. do not react very well to changes in field conditions, nor do they discriminate between targets. They will shoot at anything that moves, be it friend, foe or animal. They also have an unfortunate tendency to burst into flame when hit from behind...
"B.A.T.S. are dangerous to everybody. They'll shoot, bayonet or kick anything in sight, Cobra Infantrymen don't like to be on the same battlefield with B.A.T.S. When a Cobra unit is losing a battle they will dispense B.A.T.S. into the midst of the firefight in order to evacuate the area easily."
B.A.T.S. figures have been found in two versions. One version has bright yellow paint highlights - the others have orange paint highlights. Neither version is more difficult to find than the other.
There is also a noticeable variation in the B.A.T.S. packaging and filecard. The 1986 packaging named it B.A.T.S. while the 1987 packaging named it B.A.T.
B.A.T.S.' body is completely original - all new body parts.
B.A.T.S.' legs and waist were recolored and re-used to create Viper (v5) (1997), Cobra Officer (v2) (1998), Cobra Trooper (1998), Viper (v6) (2002), Viper (v7) (2002), Viper (v8) (2003), and Viper (v9) (2003).
