Tele-Vipers were first released as part of the fourth series (1985). They were also available in 1986 and were discontinued in 1987.

Tele-Vipers came with a black VS-11 Scanner, a black Communipac backpack, and a black hose that attached the scanner to the backpack.

These are the RTOs (Radio Telecommunications Operators) of the COBRA ground forces. They carry a standard modular radio pack that contains as a main unit a VHF transceiver equipped with an automatic frequency hopper, a crypto unit and passive jamming and anti-jamming devices. The Tele-Viper helmet contains high resolution earphones with overload dampers and two sets of voice actuated microphones. The interior of the helmet offers and alternative LED readout triggered through the optional computer pack. Optional transmission modes include microwave beam and laser - Both available as add-ons to the basic pack.

No variations of Tele-Vipers (v1) are known to exist.

Tele-Vipers was featured in several of the various media of GI Joe through the years, including Trading Cards, Comic Books, Cartoons and Commercials.
Body Construction
Tele-Viper's body is completely original - all new body parts.
The chest/torso piece was re-used in 1986 to create Claymore. The entire mold was re-used in 1989 to create Python Tele-Viper.
Starting with this series (Series Four, 1985), the head joint on G.I.Joe figures was changed into a head "ball." This ball allowed the head to look up and down, in addition to left and right.
International Releases
Tele-Vipers was released in Sweden and Europe on Action Force cards.
Estrela released Tele-Viper in Brazil in 1991.
