Cobra Commander (version 49a) was released in the Amazon exclusive G.I. Joe Retaliation Premiere Pack in 2012. The set also included Roadblock (v21), Snake Eyes (v58), and Storm Shadow (v43).
Cobra Commander (version 49a) was later available in the first wave of figures for the G.I. Joe Retaliation line in 2012.
This figure was also available in the first wave of G.I. Joe Retaliation figures in 2013.

Cobra Commander (version 49a) was created using all new molds. The entire mold was shared with Cobra Commander (v49b).
Versions of Cobra Commander
"The Doctor" represents Cobra Commander before adopting the title in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. "Old Snake" represents a future version of Cobra Commander from Sunbow's The Transformers animated series.
