The Defiant: Space Vehicle Launch Complex was first released boxed in U.S. toy stores in 1987. The playset included two figures - the astronaut Payload and the Crawler/Gantry driver Hardtop. The Defiant was also sold in 1988 and was discontinued domestically in 1989.

Hardtop was released as part of the sixth series (1987), packaged exclusively with the Defiant: Space Vehicle Launch Complex. He was also sold in 1988, then was discontinued domestically in 1989.

Easily Broken/Lost Pieces
There are many easily lost pieces. These include the elevators, guardrails, laser cannons, thruster nozzles, chairs, transporter door, hatches, panels, missiles, machine gun, umbilical cord, and wings.
Some versions of the Space Vehicle came with a mount piece that mounted the cockpit canopy to the shuttle. Some versions did not come with this piece.
There is also a variant hinge where the shuttle connects to the top of the booster.
Additionally, there is a variation in the order of instructions for the first 2 pages of the Space Vehicle Instructions.

In Europe, the Defiant: Space Vehicle Launch Complex was released in 1988. It was also available as a contest prize in Belgium.
