The Forward Observer Unit was first released boxed in U.S. toy stores in 1985. It was also sold in 1986 and was discontinued in 1987.
It was available in a mail-order set from 1988-90 as well as 1992-93 with other battlefield accessories (including the Cobra Rifle Range, Mortar Defense Unit, Machine Gun Defense Unit, Ammo Dump Unit, and the Missile Defense Unit).
