The Water Moccasin was first released boxed in U.S. toy stores in 1984. It included the driver, Copperhead. The toy was also sold in 1985 and was discontinued in 1986.

The Water Moccasin (without driver) was available mail-order from Hasbro Direct in 1986 and 1987.

Versions of the Water Moccasin:

This was the only version of the Water Moccasin ever released.

Driver/Pilot: Copperhead

Copperhead was released as part of the third series (1984), and came packaged exclusively with the Cobra Water Moccasin . They were also sold in 1985. In 1986, Copperhead was discontinued. In 1989, Copperhead was available mail-order from Hasbro Direct as part of a six figure vehicle drivers set that included HISS Driver, Stinger Driver, Crankcase, Frostbite, and Thunder. The Water Moccasin was featured in several of the various media of GI Joe through the years, including Trading Cards, Comic Books, Cartoons and Commercials.

Easily Broken/Lost Pieces:

The vanes attached to the fan shroud are fragile and break easily and the link bar is often missing. Also, the torpedo is small and easily lost.

Variations:

No known variations of the Water Moccasin are known to exist.

Vehicle Construction:

The vehicle mold was repainted or retooled for the following vehicles:

• Water Moccasin (1984)
• Tiger Shark (1988)

International Releases:

In Brazil in the late 80s, Estrela Toys colored the Water Moccasin red and renamed it the Hidroélice De Emboscada.

In Europe in the early 80s, Palitoy released the Water Moccasin with different decals.
