The Cobra Night Attack 4-WD Stinger was first released boxed in U.S. toy stores in 1984. It included the driver, Stinger Driver. The Stinger was also sold in 1985 and was discontinued in 1986.
The Stinger (without driver) was also available via mail order in 1987 and 1988.

Cobra Stinger Driver was released as part of the third series (1984), and came packaged exclusively with the Cobra Night Attack 4-WD Stinger. They were also sold in 1985. In 1986, Cobra Stinger Driver was discontinued.
In 1989, Cobra Stinger Driver was available mail-order from Hasbro Direct as part of a six figure vehicle drivers set that included Copperhead, HISS Driver, Crankcase, Frostbite, and Thunder.

In Canada in 1984, the Stinger was bundled with the A.S.P. and released in the Sears-exclusive Cobra Combat Set.
In 1985, the Stinger was released in Europe under its G.I. Joe: The Action Force line.
