Description:

The H.I.S.S. [High Speed Sentry] was first released boxed in U.S. toy stores in 1983. The box included the driver, Cobra H.I.S.S. Driver. The toy was also sold in 1984 and was discontinued in 1985. The H.I.S.S. was later available mail-order from Hasbro Direct in 1987 through 1989.

The Cobra H.I.S.S. Driver was released as part of the second series in 1983 and was packaged exclusively with the Cobra H.I.S.S. [High Speed Sentry].

Easily Broken/Lost Pieces:

The Cobra H.I.S.S. cannons can be elevated and held up by two tiny pins underneath where the guns attach to the turret. If the pins break, then the guns will droop and will not stay up when elevated.


Variations:

There are three different versions of the 788 stickers on the side of the Cobra H.I.S.S. Early store versions had clear 788 stickers, later store versions had red 788 stickers, and mail-in versions had white 788 stickers.


Vehicle Construction:

The vehicle mold was repainted or retooled for the following vehicles:


International Releases:

In Europe in the early 1980s, the Cobra H.I.S.S. was recolored in dark red and black and released as the Action Force Hyena Tank, which included the Red Jackal figure.

In Brazil, the Cobra H.I.S.S. was sold by Estrela as the Super Canhão Laser.

The Cobra H.I.S.S. was repackaged and sold in Japan by Takara Toys in 1986.
