HEAVY ARTILLERY LASER
Series: One (1982)
HAL was first released boxed in U.S. toy stores in 1982. The box included the straight-arm version of the HAL operator, Grand Slam. In 1983, the action figures were re-tooled with swivel-arm battle grip. The HAL included the swivel-arm version of Grand Slam and the text on the front of the box reflected this change. The HAL was discontinued in 1984.
In 1984, the HAL was repackaged with the VAMP Attack Jeep in a special Sears exclusive VAMP & HAL boxed set. The HAL was available from Hasbro Direct via mail-away offers from 1984 until 1990.
Driver/Pilot: GRAND SLAM (v1)
Grand Slam was one of the first figures released in the first series (1982). He came packaged exclusively with the Heavy Artillery Laser (HAL). Like all of the original sixteen figures, Grand Slam was released with "straight arms."
Driver/Pilot: GRAND SLAM (v1.5)
This swivel-arm version was available with the Heavy Artillery Laser (HAL) as part of the second series (1983). This version of Grand Slam was discontinued domestically in 1984.
At some point - possibly in 1984 - Grand Slam was also available through Hasbro Direct.
Easily Broken/Lost Pieces
The stabilizer leg and computer are easy to lose. The stabilizer leg comes off very easily.
No variations of HAL are known to exist.
In Europe in the early 1980s, the HAL was recolored in red and black and released as the Action Force Laser Exterminator.
In Brazil in 1985, the HAL was sold as the Lança-Raio Laser.
In Argentina, it was sold as the Lanza-Rayos Laser.
In Australia and New Zealand, Toltoys released the HAL in Action Man packaging.
