****** GI JOE 3 3/4" MAILING LIST ****** Hello! Once again I would like to thank you for subscribing and to welcome you to the mailing list. I hope you will find this list to be entertaining as well as informative! You'll notice that this issue isn't too long. Unless news/information volume demands it I will try to keep the issues relatively short so that you get to see something new on a regular basis. Please forward this issue to friends who are 3 3/4" Joe collectors. Encourage them to subscribe! Thanks again for jumping aboard, let's get on with the show... Volume #1 Issue #1 May 3, 1996 List Moderator: Corey Stinson (mucds@bgu.edu) Editor-in-chief: Corey Stinson (mucds@bgu.edu) Archives: Corey Stinson (mucds@bgu.edu) Go-fer: Corey Stinson (mucds@bgu.edu) Table of contents: ---------------------------------------------------------- 1. Moderator's ideas for this list - what are yours? 2. A web page of our own 3. Dealer Section 4. A couple of introductory "policies" 5. Subscription Information ======================================================================== MODERATOR'S IDEAS FOR THIS LIST - WHAT ARE YOURS? So... you're a die-hard 3 3/4" GI Joe collector. You stare at your figures on display. Opening a 3 3/4" Joe for the first time and posing him/her with their accessories sends chills up and down your spine. You know the file name, code name, and all the accessories that came with each of your 500 Joes. Maybe you obssess too much, but it's all in fun right? :) But what do 3 3/4" Joe collectors talk about now that our hobby is in kind of a holding pattern? Hasbro/Kenner doesn't seem too interested in us right now and aren't putting anything new in the stores. The other toy lines just seem plain ole' boring compared to Joe. I've actually found that there are a lot of things left to talk about concerning 3 3/4" Joe collecting and have been doing so with several Internet collector-friends for the past couple of years. I'm sure there must be other 3 3/4" Joe nuts out there just like us. My goal in starting this list is to get as many of us together as possible to share information and relate fun stories about collecting our favorite toy. Here are some of the things I envision appearing in our list: - Information from Hasbro about the 3 3/4" Joe line. Wouldn't it be great if Hasbro once again acknowleged the 3 3/4" collectors and put out some new quality Joes for us? If it happens, you'll read about it here! - Information about 3 3/4" military action figures from other toy companies. Chances are most of you are familiar with some or all of the other "GI Joe like" 3 3/4" action figures that have been released in the past. For the benefit of those that haven't heard all the details concerning these lines, you will be able to read all about it here! - The story that drove the 3 3/4" toy line. The GI Joe comic book from Marvel Comics (R.I.P.). Would you like to see discussion of that comic here? Topics such as favorite storyline, portrayed characters, and artists? This seems like a great place to do so. - Some discussion of 3 3/4" Joe customization. Due to the fact that the Joes are so easy to disassemble, you can mix and match them almost like Legos! You can get some interesting combinations and with a little paint some nice looking "original" characters! I've done some customization myself and will share that with you in a later issue. I'd also like very much to hear about any customization you've done! - An occasional small section containing the e-mail addresses of individuals selling/trading 3 3/4" Joe and related items. If interested you can request a list from them of what they have for sale. - Your ideas! Without you, the subscriber, this list is not a list. Please give me some feedback and your opinions on the things I've mentioned above as well as any ideas you have concerning what you'd like to see here. The more, the better! ======================================================================== A WEB PAGE OF OUR OWN I think this list would really benefit from having a Web page as a "base." Perhaps we can call it "GI Joe Headquarters." :) It would be a great place to host things such as: - a buy/sell/trade classified ad area exclusive to 3 3/4" GI Joe and related items - pictures of Joe toys such as new items, rare items, never-released items, and customizations! - a 3 3/4" Joe file card trading database. Color-copy trading of file cards is the next best thing to actually having the original file card. More on this next issue! - an 3 3/4" Joe accessory trading database. - other items that are technically infeasible to distribute out over the mailing list. - What ideas do -you- have for a web page? ======================================================================== DEALER SECTION I'm aware of a couple of dealers that are worth mentioning right away, contact them for their for-sale list, they might have something you are looking for. If you know of a dealer in 3 3/4" Joe items, or you yourself have items for sale let me know so that it can be posted here! - Ted Hampton or This guy had a -lot- of 3 3/4" Joe stuff for sale a few weeks ago. - MEEHAN TOYS Their list has a few items which I can personally say are difficult to find. These items include the Star-Brigade Power Fighters (Techno-Viper & Gears), and also Air Commando Spirit w/ Glider. standard disclaimer: No one listed above has given any special "kickbacks" or favors to be listed. In some cases they don't even know they're being listed. No dealer will be given a list subscriber's e-mail address. You must contact the dealer on your own behalf. Transactions between you and anyone listed above are in no way the responsiblity of the GI Joe 3 3/4" mailing list. ======================================================================== INTRODUCTORY POLICIES Currently, this list is being sent out in such a way that the mail header will contain all members of the mailing list. I would ask that no one receiving this list use the list mail header to send unsolicited messages to list subscribers. If you have something to say to the entire list you should send it to the list moderator so that it can be included in the next issue. I imagine that most subscribers would not mind receiving 3 3/4" Joe-related mail, nevertheless, I don't want to have anyone asked to be unsubscribed due to receiving unsolicited messages. I also ask that no one forward issues of this mailing list to dealers whose only interest in the list is to spam the subscribers with unsolicited messages. If you know of a dealer in 3 3/4" Joe, let the list moderator know and their e-mail address will be included in the dealer section in the next issue. I ask that any list subscriber that receives unsolicted e-mail they feel was received due to being a member of this list to report it to the list moderator immediately. This information is being included only in this issue. It will not reappear unless necessary, and hopefully it won't be necessary! :) ======================================================================== SUBSCRIPTION INFO Currently all subscriptions, unsubscriptions, and e-mail address changes are being handled manually. If you require one of the above simply send a message to the list moderator requesting such. Thanks!
