In Spain, 39 issues and one spring special of G.I. Joe were published in Spanish by Comics Forum (Editorial Planeta DeAgostini). The majority of the books were titled "G.I. Joe Héroes Internacionales," but the first 2 issues were titled "Comando G.I. Joe," and issues 4 through 8 were titled "G.I. Joe Héroe Americano." The ISBN number of this publication was 84-395-0554-x. The Spanish-translated comics were lettered (as opposed to typed, a common practice in Mexican comic translations), and even the title of the story (in the opening splash page) was covered up with a translation of the same into Spanish. The issues were all reprints of the U.S. Marvel comics, and started in May of 1987. The last issue was published in August of 1992. The spring special, "Especial Primavera", was released between issues 8 and 9 in March of 1988. The cover prices are in Pesetas, the Spanish currency before the Euro. Spanish comic books from Editorial Planeta at this time were longer than the U.S. standard, having on average 32 to 36 pages (instead of 22 to 24). Thus each Spanish issue reprinted the material contained in 1 and a half U.S. Marvel G.I. Joe comics. There were also 4 Trade Paperbacks released, and each one collected 5 issues. Unlike modern U.S. comics TPBs, the Spanish G.I. Joe TPBs were simply unmodified reprints of the single comics (including the covers), glued together inside of a card stock lid. The inside of the TPB cover lids had nothing printed on them (they were simply gray card stock). "G.I. Joe Héroes Internacionales" was mostly monthly until its cancellation with issue 21 in April of 1989. In Spain it is very rare for a title to be canceled and brought back due to popular demand. However, GI Joe was brought back from cancellation with issue 22 in October of 1989. From this point, the comic switched from monthly to every other month, and went from 32 pages to 64 pages. The first story in this new period was the "G.I. Joe and the Transformers" mini-series. Some issues included a letters pages with letters from local Spanish readers sent to the publisher. Often, the comics included two-page poster inserts of unpublished covers (at least unpublished in Spain).
