Seamus McCullen is fighting with the Gordon's (the British) military against Napoleon's French forces at the Battle of Waterloo. With his face covered in a metal mask, his troops are retreating when he opens a case filled with grenades, which he actually calls Hand Artillery. (The introduction of the grenade to a certain degree was new for this age of battle.) His troops begin killing the French troops with the grenades and the battle turns against Napoleon.
In Cobra's Section 10 in the frozen arctic reaches of Russia, Destro has been retelling this story of the 18th Laird of Destro to Borchak, one of the smart prisoners of the prison camp that Destro has been sent to by Cobra Commander and the Baroness. Four prisoners attack him with knives but before they can reach him a line of bullets stops them. Major Bludd, the camps superintendent, prevents the attack. Destro doesn't thank him, he only reminds Bludd that they are both prisoners trapped inside the walls.
At The Pit, Brainstorm is briefing a large group of Joes about Cobra's newest weapon the MASS Device. Although he doesn't know much about it, he knows it is created by MARS and has taken years to develop. Hawk interrupts telling them that Cobra can now deploy anywhere in the world. Their recent attempted investigation of The Pit was thwarted by Cover Girl, Tripwire and Downtown but a whole squad of Joes were killed just to kill two Cobra soldiers. He orders them all to begin intensive training under the guidance of Snake Eyes, the one Joe who has actually beaten a Cobra soldier. Scarlett, who has been assisting in the briefing, learns from Hawk's comment that Snake Eyes is back and rushes off to thank him for clearing her name. She says to him "Now you're back to stay right? The past is the past? And I know there's nothing more between us. Is there?" She walks away head down, arms cradling her chest almost crying.
Back at Section 10, a guard, Dimtri, is walking night duty and sees two sets of footprints in the snow. He follows them into a chemical room where Destro and Borchak are mixing chemicals. After a warning the guard is killed by a former guard now a prisoner named Yubov. In his office, Major Bludd is talking through video link to the Baroness, who orders him to make sure Destro has an accidental death. Outside the prisoner barracks Destro rolls the mixed chemicals into the barracks, once it blows up it kills many prisoners. Guards and Major Bludd come rushing out to see what caused the explosion. Destro just standing in the middle of the camp awaits Major Bludd and the guards. He starts explaining that since the prison camp is forced to have a finite population of guards to inmates that Bludd is now forced to convert 7 of his guards to inmates. Which means that Destro now commands the majority of the guards. He then orders the guards to take Major Bludd prisoner after long moments of decision the guards turn on Bludd knocking him down to the ground.
In Bludd's office, Destro demands of Cobra Commander's assistant that they be connected. Destro begins his demands; first is freedom from the prison, second is freedom from his containment suit (due to a MASS Device failure, his body is literally being held together by his containment suit).
At The Pit, Mainframe is briefing Scarlett & Dial Tone on his recent Cobra discovery, the island of Manatua, which is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Through the Cobranet he has discovered huge bank transfers worth billions made to the small banks on the island. The problem with this is that after several scans Mainframe could find no life on the island nor any technology much less a society that would need billions. Since the island is off the shipping and airplane lanes, it is a remote as can be. And he suggests that the Joes drop in and investigate the island.
Later off the coast of Manatua a submarine breaches the surface.
