Cover I
What is pictured is actually the back cover with sketch of Snake Eyes.
The front cover is exactly the same.
(This is a cut & paste recreation)

New Dimension Comics #1 Error edition, the first quarter of the book is printed twice, so it's missing most of the story and has double the ads in the back. No cover differences, just a printing error.

Long Summary
In the Gulf of Mexico near Panama, a cargo ship's crew is illegally inspecting its own cargo. They uncover what they think is a small car but is really just a big solid box. When the try to force it open it comes alive, fires tons of bullets & kills all of the crew members then part of the ship blows up causing it to sink near a shallow sand bar. Most of this scene is seen from the perspective of inside the box.

In the Nevada desert one week later, Duke and Beach Head are running into the GI Joe base The Pit talking about how they can't remember what life was like before they joined the GI Joe team. Once inside, Dial Tone orders Duke to report to his commander, Scarlett.

As Duke arrives, Hawk & Scarlett are monitoring Shipwreck, Deep Six and Torpedo as they inspect the sunken cargo ship. The Joes discover that the bodies and the ship have been shot up as well as discovering the mysterious box. Hawk orders them to salvage the box.

Hawk then orders Duke to go over his after action report on the ship incursion to stop gun smuggling that ended with the complete destruction of the cargo ship. (see GI Joe #0) Also he wants to find out more about this mysterious Cobra name that he has been hearing about. Duke's team is the first to have direct link.

In the Crimean Rivera, Nico is on the phone talking about how he has now lost two ships. The voice on the other side of the line asks if he is home. He answers "Yes". A mysterious man just kind of appears out of nowhere and executes Nico's bodyguards. This mystery man has body armor, infrared goggles in day light and two pistols with arm mounted reloaders. Nico dives behind a bar and as the mysterious man jumps after him he disappears leaving behind his gun and pile of what seems to be ash. Then Nico escapes to his car and speeds away. Snake Eyes appears to investigate, as he is looking at the pile of ash and the gun, one of the bodyguards with his last breath before dying says "like a ghost. vanished! you are ghost also?"

Three days later at The Pit, Dial Tone delivers the gun and pile of ash to Scarlett along with a note displaying two dice with the one dot on it, Snake Eyes. She orders the material it to be investigated. Dusty arrives to request Scarlett to answer a security question on the box that Shipwreck's team salvaged from the sunken ship. Airtight along with Frostbite brief her, it has no radiation, no bugs, independent power, seamless, very dense and is humming. Scarlett authorizes them to open it however they can but with strict protocol to level five isolation standards.

As Airtight listens to the humming, we see the perspective of the box looking at Airtight, Scarlett and the rest of the Joes.
