This prototype was displayed as one of the cards in the G.I.Joe 30th Salute Trading Card set.

"Responding to the excitement generated by the United States' space shuttle program, Hasbro began developing a space force within the GI Joe ranks during the mid-80's. Although this particular figure was never produced, the space force theme was carried out in Hasbro's Defiant Shuttle Complex (1987) and Star Brigade (1993-1994)."
