Action figures usually start as "Hard Copies". These models
are used to create the molds, that are used to press out a run of "First
shots" or "Test shots". These test shots are done in
many different colors and lack a date stamp until the production run
begins.
Pictured above is a test shot of Major Storm (1990). His body is molded
in several colors, the head is in tan, and the entire figure is unpainted.
There is no date stamp on the figure

Pictured above is a preproduction image of Major Storm as the figure
appeared in a Hasbro product catalog. Note that the figure is not the
same one pictured above. It includes gold detail on the waist pocket
and the cuff of the sleeve.
