Pictured above is a placeholder prototype of Secto-Viper (1988) as the figure appeared on the box side of the Cobra B.U.G.G.. This figure was created using the mold of Payload (1987). However, the transparent color of the helmet's face shield indicates that the helmet was not the production version. While it does match the color of the helmet that came with the second version of Payload (1989), this image existed before the figure's release.

Although the very different version pictured at the top also appeared on the box, the front of the package used another preproduction figure. This version was created using the waist of Road Pig (1988).

A third preproduction figure with the area below the helmet dome painted gray was featured in the television commercials.

The same figure also appeared in a 1988 Hasbro product catalog but instead used a different helmet.
