Red Star was released carded as part of the tenth series (1991). He was discontinued domestically in 1992.

Red Star came with a blue hat, a black assault rifle, a black knife, a black double-barrelled hand cannon (the two barrels were easily removable), a brown backpack, a black ammo belt (that attached the hand cannon to the backpack), a black antenna (that attached to the backpack), a black missile launcher (spring loaded, that really fired), and a red missile.

Variations
There are three versions of the Red Star filecard. The first version incorrectly depicts a Cobra logo on the filecard. The second version includes a G.I.Joe label covering the Cobra logo. The third version is the corrected filecard, with the G.I.Joe logo on the filecard. This third version is the easiest one to find.
Body Construction
Red Star's body is entirely original - no parts were taken from other figures.
Red Star's entire mold was later re-used in 1998 to create Colonel Brekhov.
