Zarana's Filecard

Figure Description:

Zarana was released carded as part of the fifth series (1986). She was also available in 1987 and was discontinued in 1988.

Versions of Zarana:

Accessories:

Zarana came with a black "razor honed spur cutting weapon" and a red backpack.

Variations:

The earliest versions of Zarana's head had earrings. At an early point in her release, it was changed to a newer version that did not have earrings.

This is the head with earrings.
This is the head without earrings.

Other than the completely different heads, the bodies and accessories of both figures are exactly the same. The version with earrings is the more difficult one to find.

An intermediate variation exists between the original with earrings and the later figure without earrings. Like the first version with earrings, this version also had different facial details and lighter red details on the gloves, legs, and belt.

Body Construction:

Zarana's upper arms and shoulder pieces, just above the swivel arm point, are also shared with Zartan (1984) and Zandar (1986). The rest of Zarana's body is completely original - all new body parts.

Zarana's skin was made of thermal sensitive material that would change color in sunlight and heat. When Zarana's chest and arms were placed in direct sunlight, they turned blue. After removing her from sunlight, the color faded and returned back to its normal skintone. This same kind of material was used with Zartan (1984) and Zandar (1986).

International Variants:

In India in 1990, Zarana was released in slightly different colors and with differently colored accessories.
