Beachhead n. A designated area on a hostile or potentially hostile shore that, when seized and held, ensures the continuous landing of troops and material, and provides maneuver space requisite for subsequent projected operations ashore. (DOD Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms 12/17/2003)

Ranger n. Rapidly deployable airborne light infantry organized and trained to conduct highly complex joint direct action operations in coordination with or in support of other special operations units of all Services. Rangers also can execute direct action operations in support of conventional nonspecial operations missions conducted by a combatant commander and can operate as conventional light infantry when properly augmented with other elements of combined arms. (DOD Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms 12/17/2003)

Primary Military Specialty: Infantry. See the job description from the US Army recruiting web page.

Secondary Military Specialty: Small Arms Armorer. Currently, the closest position would be a Small Arms/Artillery Repairer.

Visit Fort Benning's website, where Beachhead served as a lane instructor.

While a beret that appears on Beachhead's shoulder appears to be red, a strong possibility exists that it was intended to be maroon. Maroon berets are worn by Airborne soldiers. However, a proper Ranger beret at the time would have been black.

While Beachhead's Ranger designation might suggest that he is wearing the patch of the 75th Ranger Regiment, the patch he was given is actually that of the 75th Infantry Division (though the real patch is red, white, and blue). The 75th Division (Training and Support) of the US Army Reserve was originally the 75th Infantry Division during WWII. Many of the Joes' unit patches also come from the US Army Reserve.

Beachhead's primary weapon is a Demro 9mm XF-7 Wasp Carbine, a modified variant of the Demro TAC-1M (which appears on his card art). The magazines on his chest and in his ammo pouch provide him with added ammunition for this gun.

A single fragmentation grenade hangs from his belt on his right side.

Beachhead's sidearm could be one of several types, but judging from the markings on the grip, it could be an M-1911.

Beachhead carries two standard issue survival knives on his right leg. The knife on his upper leg is a bit larger than the one on his lower leg.

On his lower left leg, Beachhead carries several sticks of dynamite along with a timer.

The object located on the side of his backpack (and attached to the cable located on the backpack's lower portion) is the subject of debate. Many feel that this is a grappling hook attached to a rappelling line, used for climbing or descending. But the possibility that this is an experimental man-portable mine-detonation device has also been discussed. In this possibility, a drag line would be projected into a mine field, detonating landmines and creating a pathway for incoming troops.

A crossbow and accompanying bolts are another prominent feature of the backpack.

A standard issue flashlight completes the distict details of the backpack, which also features additional storage areas.
