Dr. Mindbender was first released as part of the fifth series (1986). He was also available in 1987 and was discontinued in 1988.
The name "Dr. Mindbender" may have been a last minute addition. At certain early times in G.I.Joe mythos, he was referred to as "Dr. Brainwave" (in Marvel Comics G.I.Joe #44) and also as "The Interrogator" (on the filecard of Serpentor).

Dr. Mindbender came with a white handgun, a silver prod, a black power generator, a black cape (with a painted silver Cobra logo), and a black hose.

Variations
There are two types of Dr. Mindbender's cape. One has a Cobra sigil as a patch - the other is an iron-on transfer.
Body Construction
The thighs (or upper legs) of Dr. Mindbender were originally used to create Mutt (1984).
Other than the thighs, Dr. Mindbender's body is completely original - all new body parts.
International Variants
In Brazil, Dr. Mindbender was released as part of the Iron Grenadiers.
In France, Dr. Mindbender was released as "Dr. Cortex."
