Webmaster's Note:
It was common practice at Hasbro among the toy makers to sculpt action figures to look like real life individuals - including employees of Hasbro.

Iron Bear was sculpted to be Derryl DePriest - a Hasbro executive and longtime fan of G.I. Joe.

Filecard Information

File Name: Classified
Grade: General (Генера́л)
Birthplace: Saint Petersburg, Russia
Primary Specialty: Operations Commander
Secondary Specialty: Counter Intelligence
Motto: "Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice."

IRON BEAR is the OKTOBER GUARD General and their best kept secret. He is an experienced war veteran with detailed knowledge of military strategies, battles, locations, vehicles, armaments, and noteworthy soldiers. He is a very wise and confident leader, yet humble around his soldiers. It is rumored that he has amassed a sizable collection of war memorabilia, but no one knows where it is kept. Although he commands his elite team behind the scenes, there are occasions when he must leave their secret headquarters to protect and serve the interests of Mother Russia.

IRON BEAR has spent years avoiding attempts on his life from traitorous double agents within the Soviet army. Now he must contend with DESTRO and his deadly IRON GRENADIERS. However, he has learned to stay one step ahead of the enemy and always keep on the move. It may be a never ending task, but he proudly directs his elite special missions team to strike at them until the very last man is standing.

Variations

Iron Bear was available both boxed and bagged.

The reissued box set came with a different certificate of authenticity, and the tacks on the pin are set higher. In addition, there are a few differences with the Iron Bear figure itself. The gray paint on the figure's hair was reversed - instead of covering just the temples, it covered everything but. Additionally, the figure came with an ill-fitting shoulder holster harness accessory.

Featured In

Iron Bear was featured in several of the various media of GI Joe through the years, including Trading Cards, Comic Books, Cartoons and Commercials.

Body Construction

Iron Bear was created using the lower arms and the legs of Duke (v30) (2009), the upper arms of Duke (v32) (2009), the torso and waist of Snake Eyes (v35) (2008), and a new head.

Versions of Iron Bear

This was the only version of Iron Bear ever released.
