In 1991 Target stores requested that Hasbro make them a 12 inch G.I.Joe figure for them to sell. The figure was the first 12inch figure to be released in 15 years. It was very popular and in 1992 the 12inch G.I.Joe line returned, but they were not the Joes that the fans and collectors of the original 12inch line remembered. The figures that were released from 1991 and on were named characters and they were based on the small 3 3/4" G.I.Joe toy line. This line was called the "Hall of Fame" collection. It ran from 1991 - 1994 when the "A Real American Hero" toy line as a whole was cancelled. A couple additional figures popped out in 1995 and 1996, but these were store exclusives or convention specials. The 12inch line did continue on, but it was the newly returned classic collection. The named characters based on the 3 3/4" figures would not return until 2002 when Hasbro re-launched the "A Real American Hero" toyline, but the line was now called "G.I.Joe vs. Cobra". This line continued until 2005.
